Meet Knitido
Knitido was the first Japanese company to manufacture toe socks, led by Takahiro Idobata, who was inspired by a pair of toe socks he received from Spain in 1974.
Founded Knitglove in 1981 and developed a specialized knitting machine to produce toe socks. Despite initial resistance in Japan, toe socks gained popularity due to their unexpected benefits, such as controlling foot odor and improving the wearer’s perception and gait.
In 1998, a new factory was opened in Wakayama, and in 2006, the company changed its name to Knitido. Currently, Knitido is run by the second generation of the Idobata family and produces toe socks in Japan, employing 56 people under fair working conditions. The brand expanded to Germany in 2007 and supplies socks to all of Europe from its headquarters in Berlin.
